We have heard the commandment of Jesus to “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. And we think we understand this law. But do we?
While Jesus was here, he talked a lot about how pharisees were hypocrites, and while they kept the commandments on the outside, they were not keeping it on the inside. What God desires is right thinking that flows out into right action, not just right actions.
Jesus talked about how if you become angry at another person, it is as if you have murdered. For if you follow the path of letting your thoughts become evil, it will only be a matter of time before you become evil enough to kill. If you look at a woman with lust, it is as if you have already committed adultery, for the same reason.
So Jesus came to teach us that the true way to keep the law, is not to keep up appearances and do good deeds, but to think of only good things and to not dwell on evil thoughts. To not only do unto others as we would have them do unto us, but to hink of others as we would have them think of us.
